Speaking the Language of the Client

As soon as you start engaging with the client, start taking notes about the specific examples, imagery, and language they use.

The more you can mirror their language and events from their daily life in your pointers, the easier it will be to guide the client. This is because the client feels at home when you frame things in their “worldview” while you simultaneously show them the illusion of it. The effect is much larger than if you would use generic examples and language. So the idea is to get as “close to home” as possible, without worrying about it too much.

Another area to be aware of is the learning and interaction style of the client:

● Which guiding stance do they seem to respond best to? Can you adapt to give them more of it?
● Do they enjoy going through the exercises live with you or do they prefer to try on their own first. Can you take that into account?
● Do they enjoy writing and messaging or do they prefer to speak directly? If they prefer speaking, can you include more calls and less messaging?
● Do they struggle with a specific style of imagery? I often have clients tell me that a particular analogy “does nothing for them” or confuses them. This is valuable information and an invitation for you to offer an alternative.
● Where do their beliefs about nonduality or beliefs from previous approaches get in the way? Can you challenge these beliefs?

You can discover that the more I can adapt my style to the preferences of the client, the better the inquiry goes and the faster the insights come. Naturally this requires you to be able to demonstrate a wide range of stances and inquiry styles, as well as being comfortable with “the dance” itself.
