Bridging the Gap with Clients

“A coaching client must first be truly receptive before trying out a nondual approach.”

Common belief from aspiring nondual coaches

True and false! Let me explain why.

When someone has tried many methods to tackle a challenge without success, they often become receptive to a more radical approach. However, they first need to deeply experience the inadequacy of conventional self-improvement solutions.

People must be disappointed often enough to try something completely new. Why else would one venture into the unknown territory of nonduality? If a more practical solution still exists, it would be logical to focus on that first.

This cycle, however, can continue indefinitely. People facing challenges often keep themselves captive in a destructive but familiar loop. Because it’s familiar, it feels safe. But is it really?

Perhaps it’s up to the nondual coach to introduce nondual principles early in the client’s journey. The client may think they are not ready. It might seem like a premature solution. But once introduced, the nondual approach may not seem so unknown and uncertain after all. These concerns are often based on misconceptions about nonduality.

Nonduality might seem serious, mysterious, confusing, radical, and boring. But once clients realise these associations are just ideas, they open up to self-exploration. They might not need to exhaust all other options before being ready for an unconventional approach.

The advantage of the nondual coach is the ability to introduce nondual principles at what may seem like an early stage. The coach or the client might believe it’s not the right time. But appearances can be deceiving.

If we always waited for the mind to be ready for something unfamiliar, we might wait forever. A nondual approach doesn’t need to meet specific conditions before it can be applied. It offers a powerful methodology accessible to everyone at any time.

However, using the right methods is crucial. Generating the right nondual tools for each situation can be taught. Nondual coaching can be implemented, adding a deeper layer to your current coaching practice and addressing a client’s challenges fully.
